Zero Clearance Inserts

I believe that every table saw should have a zero clearance insert. If you ever had a small piece of material fall between the saw blade and the insert, come flying back out at you, you know what I am taking about. I have made many of my own zero clearance inserts and they worked great!
Delta's new contractors saw series (36-5000) would making one much more difficult than cutting out a blank insert out of wood and raising the running saw blade up through insert.
Delta's 36-501 zero clearance insert (sells at MikesTools.com for $55.60) it is an adjustable insert. Which means you can adjust the clearance for different saw kerf sizes (1/8 standard kerf, 3/32"thin kerf, or 080"ultra thin kerf). By moving the adjustable brackets underneath the main body of the insert the width can be changed. There are adjustment screws for in, out, and parallel alignment. One word of caution, make sure you follow the instructions, if your blade has alternate top bevel teeth (ATB), take that into consideration when determining the clearance.

Setting Band Saw Guides.
Most band saws have two similar sets of guides, one set above the table and the other below. There are two different types of these, one has a rear guide bearing and then two guide blocks. The second has the rear bearing and also two side bearings. The back bearing resists the force that you apply as you push the board past the blade, while the guide blocks or bearings prevent the blade from twisting out of position. Both sets can be adjusted the same way..
Move the guard up about halfway between the table and the top of the case. Depending on how accurately the guard moves up and down you may have to set the guides to allow it to move. Set the rear bearings first, both top and the bottom. Move them forward until they almost touch the blade. Leave about 1/32” gap between the blade and the bearing. We have found that a dollar bill works just fine. Then set the guide blocks or the side bearings using the dollar bill. When all are in place lock them. Your saw should now be ready to run! If you have problems with the way it is cutting after this tune-up, the saw may require more involved adjustment. There may be a problem with the alignment of the wheels with one another, balancing the wheels and adjusting the drive train. This is time for the owner’s manual to assist with these problems.

CMT has just added a  professional range of hole saws for electricians, carpenters, builders, kitchen fitters and all related heating, ventilation and plumbing trades. These hole saws have been specifically designed to ensure maximum lifetime and performance in all materials and applications.

Series 550, tungsten carbide-tipped hole saws

Tungsten carbide-tipped multi-purpose hole saws are designed for use in a wide variety of materials such as soft and hardwoods, chipboard, plywood, MDF, plastic, gypsum/plasterboard, tiles, solid bricks and bricks with cavities, aerated concrete blocks, lightweight aggregate blocks and breeze blocks, soft density lime-sandstone building blocks (max 30 N/mm2 hardness).

Series 551, bimetal PLUS 8% cobalt hole saws

Special tooth geometry with regular pitch provides a smoother cut and better chip clearance preventing clogging and heat built up. Teeth are alternate & side set to minimize binding and friction, requiring less feed pressure. Ideal for mild steel (up to 1000 N/mm2 hardness), stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, aluminium, cast iron, copper, zinc.

Series 552, diamond dry

Diamond grit edge hole saws have been specially developed for professionals that need to drill in extremely hard materials such as ceramic tiles (porcelain, gres, quarry, granite, hard stone), fiberglass, gypsum/plasterboard, fibercement board, Perspex®, where it is increasingly difficult to drill with conventional hole saws. These hole saws guarantee excellent performance and superior lifetime even in the hardest materials.
